plugging holes.....

It's errand day for me and I have to get a package for my wife. That means sitting in traffic and spending up teem hours stopping and going only to advance a few feet at a time. This is the busiest time of the day for Post Road, and with no traffic, this would take about 20 minutes round trip. That didn't happen tonight.

Normally my wife would go because she knows I dislike driving in traffic. She can't do that because she is in Seattle for her annual job conference. It'll cut into my shop time but without her around I'll make up for it later on in the week. Trying to talk to the cats is a one way conversation.

I sawed these to width on the tablesaw and I purposely left that thin web in the middle. Leaving that made sawing them a bit safer for me and I'll cut these apart on the bandsaw. After that I'll plane what is left flush.

I don't have time to do the other four tonight. I'll have to do them tomorrow.

I thought about this and initially I liked it. Rather the plugging the mistake mortises, I could use them for the tenons on the stretchers. I don't have the stock to do that so it's a moot point. But after seeing this here I'm not in love with what the look of this would be.  Stability wise, I think it would work well but I can't get past the clunky look of it.

I got this on sale from Woodsmith I think. This was one of the first magazines I subscribed to back when I was more interested in building houses then furniture (1970's). If I remember right they stopped publishing and Woodsmith bought it and changed the feel of it. It became a lot like their other magazines - Shopnotes and Woodsmith.

This DVD compilation comes out to about 25 cents an issue which I consider to be a bargain. I also bought DVDs with all the issues of Shopnotes, Woodsmith, and Fine Woodworking with xmas gift certificates. I'll have plenty of reading material for a while.
