new bookshelf ends.......

The house is empty again. Amanda and Seth are gone and so is the laughter and back and forth banter. The girls have been gone for quite a while but this short visit has left a void. I felt it when I first came home from work and saw that all the luggage was gone. I'm sure I'll get used to it but for now I wish they were still here for a while longer.

I didn't feel much like puttering in the shop tonight neither. That is something that I rarely experience. I did spend about 20 minutes there but quit early.

new bookshelf ends
This was going to be the two shelf parts but it has been moved up in the queue. I checked and I can get the two ends and avoid that knot. This board is flat, straight, and cup/bow free.

trying a new sawing position
I sawed out the two ends off the end of the bench and against a stop. This went much better then sawing the ends on the bench hook. It took less effort and it was easier to saw on the knife line.

lots of chip out
I sawed this right on the knife line and that didn't help me here. Sawing pine and doing it chip free isn't working for me like it does for Paul Sellers. I'll have to keep on trying.

the top
I sawed just off the knife line but the bottom was toast. I didn't make a second knife line and saw in between them. Maybe that is why I got the the chip out.

sticker until tomorrow
I made one corner square and that will be the back and bottom of the ends. I'll use them as my reference edges when I do the layout. The top and opposite side I left wild because I'll be sawing angles on them. I'll have to make a Lowes run and get some pine for the shelves.

I quit early and went to make dinner for just me and my wife. I think I miss having everyone for dinner the most and all the conversation. I have trouble following a lot of it but I still like watching and listening. I've got next year to look forward to.

FYI -  I bought a 5" grinding wheel for my hand grinder. Finding a 5" wheel and finding one with my arbor size proved to be impossible.  I finally stumbled on a 5" Norton general purpose wheel for grinding, sharpening, and shaping metal. I got it from Aubuchon Hardware (here). I bought it because it comes with a 1" hole and bushings for 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, and 7/8" shafts. I had it delivered to a Aubuchon Hardware Store 22 miles from my house and I saved $11 S/H.
